In Script -> Settings you set up your defaults as you want them (as above) and then Save As (in Script -> Settings). If I'm importing text (usually I start writing in something other than Trelby) it always starts a new document with the A4 setting, but that's easy to fix also.

This works when I'm starting a new document. (new name) right away, so I don't overwrite the template by just hitting Save. Trelby /home/myhome/Documents/scripts/elby Then in my properties in the desktop shortcut (I use Linux, but I think it's the same in Windows), I just use. I just open an empty file, set it up the way I want in Script -> Settings (including using Letter instead of A4) and save it as "elby" (without the quotes). I wish Trelby had Unicode support so I could use an em dash - instead of double hyphens -, but that's a minor thing. The thoughtĪll I had to do here is highlight the selected text, Copy to System (formatted) and then paste here, using the 't' icon under the three dots to set up a formatted text (or code) block. Joe eyes the thirty packages the Tall Man cradles in one armĪnd senses that something is not quite right. Joe grapples with the small box as he lifts it. Package to Joe who tries to catch it, twirls and nearly The Tall Man stares sullenly at the ground. It exports and imports FDX and Fountain files and (unlike any other application I've tried) you can directly paste formatted script "snippets to sites like Reddit. I don't see any reason to quit using Trelby. I've also set it up so it opens to Letter sized paper instead of A4 (I just load a template) and I've changed the paper margins to more closely match more modern applications. I've "updated" it a bit, by making Courier Screenplay my display and PDF font, changed the background and font colors and I've modified the Scene Break and Note elements to allow me to use italics in an Action and Dialogue blocks (full blocks only). I've tried Fade In Pro (demo, a great program), KIT Scenarist (another good one and free), WriterSolo (free downloadable version of WriterDuet that works on Linux) and like them all, but I like Trelby better - probably because I'm used to it, but it also is very customizable, small and fast (and I like the Name Bank Database).
